In a new PSA created in collaboration with the Colorectal Cancer Alliance and actor Ryan Reynolds’ creative agency, Maximum Effort, Prescott pokes fun at the criticism he receives as a quarterback while spreading the message that colon cancer is preventable.
The light-hearted ad, posted on social media by Prescott, encourages viewers to consider at-home tests for colon cancer. Prescott acknowledges the criticism he faces as a professional quarterback, stating, “When you’re not a fan of something, s——- on it can make you feel good. But what if I told you that now, it can do some good too? Let me show you how.”
Prescott’s personal connection to colon cancer adds a deeper meaning to his involvement in the campaign. His mother passed away from the disease in 2013, which motivated him to start the colon cancer screening and research pillar of his Faith Fight Finish Foundation. By partnering with the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, Prescott aims to inform people, especially Black Americans who are at greater risk, about the preventability of colon cancer and the various screening options available.
Beyond his efforts in raising awareness about colon cancer, Prescott has been actively involved in his community throughout his football career. He was recognized as the 2022 Walter Payton Man of the Year, an award that honors NFL players for their excellence on and off the field. When asked about his off-field work, Prescott emphasized that his purpose goes beyond football and is focused on sharing his story and inspiring others.
The PSA comes at a time when the rising prevalence of colon cancer is a concern. By utilizing his celebrity status and sense of humor, Dak Prescott is leveraging his platform to make a positive impact and encourage more people to prioritize their health through colon cancer screening.
