Chicago Gang Leader Admits Attempting to Provide Financial Support to ISIS and Trafficking Illegal Drugs

Recently, a Chicago-area street gang leader, Jason Brown, also known as Abdul Ja’Me, has admitted in federal court to attempting to provide financial support to ISIS on multiple occasions. The 41-year-old attempted to provide $500 in support of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) three separate times in 2019, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ). However, unbeknownst to Brown, the money was given to an undercover law enforcement officer posing as an ISIS fighter.

In addition to his involvement with ISIS, Brown also confessed to trafficking fentanyl and other illegal drugs from California to the Chicago suburbs in 2019. Furthermore, he admitted to illegally possessing loaded handguns to further his criminal activities. Brown was the leader of the AHK street gang, which consisted of former members of various other gangs, including the Black P Stones, Gangster Disciples, and Four Corner Hustlers.

The AHK gang members were involved in trafficking narcotics such as fentanyl analogues, heroin, and cocaine in the Chicago area. They frequently boasted about their illegal activities on social media, according to the charges against them.

On Wednesday, Brown pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to provide material support to ISIS, one count of distributing fentanyl, and one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. The firearms charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison and a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. The drug charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison and a maximum penalty of 40 years. Brown could face up to 20 years in prison for the terrorism charge. His sentencing is scheduled for May 28.

This case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating terrorism and drug trafficking. It also sheds light on the presence of Chicago street gangs involved in both domestic and international criminal activities. The successful collaboration between law enforcement agencies in apprehending Brown underscores the importance of intelligence gathering and undercover operations in disrupting criminal networks.

It is crucial for society to remain vigilant against such threats and for law enforcement to continue their efforts to dismantle criminal organizations involved in terrorism and drug trafficking. The case against Jason Brown serves as a reminder of the constant battle to ensure public safety and national security.
