South Korean Police Investigate Cyberattack by North Korean Hackers on Defense Companies and Research Institutions

South Korean authorities, in collaboration with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), are currently investigating a cyberattack carried out by a group known as Andariel, believed to be North Korean hackers. The investigation aims to determine the extent of the data obtained by the hackers, which likely includes information on military technologies such as anti-aircraft lasers. This report comes from Reuters.

The targeted organizations affected by the cyberattack include South Korean defense firms, research institutions, and pharmaceutical companies. One of the breached data repositories contained critical defense secrets of South Korea.

On November 26, an expert predicted an increase in the number of hacker attacks on Russia in 2024.

Just three days prior, a cyber espionage group called XDSpy, which targeted a Russian missile developer, was exposed in Russia.

Previously, hackers gained access to water supply systems in Texas, leaving millions of people without water.
