A suspect has been apprehended in Texas following a shooting spree that resulted in the deaths of six individuals and left three others injured, including two police officers. The incident occurred across two counties on Tuesday, according to authorities. The male suspect has been charged with capital murder, and additional charges are expected.
Austin Interim Police Chief Robin Henderson provided updates during a news conference on Tuesday night, stating that no information has been released regarding the suspect’s identity or motive. The shooting spree began at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Bachman Drive in Austin, where an Austin Independent School district police officer was shot and injured.
Over an hour later, authorities received 911 calls reporting a double homicide on Shady Wood Drive, where a male and female victim were found dead. The third shooting occurred just before 5 p.m. on West Slaughter Lane, with a male cyclist sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. Another shooting was reported around 6:45 p.m. when an Austin police officer responded to a burglary in progress on Austral Loop. The suspect opened fire on the officer, who returned fire and sought cover. The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was in stable condition at a hospital.
Following the exchange of gunfire, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle but crashed several minutes later after a pursuit with other officers. He was then taken into custody. Upon searching the reported burglary location, two additional victims were discovered deceased. Authorities have since discovered that the suspect may have connections to a home in Bexar County and have alerted the relevant authorities.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar reported that deputies found two middle-aged victims dead inside the Bexar County home, suggesting a possible double homicide unrelated to the shootings in Austin. The exact relationship between the suspect and these victims remains unclear.
