Ukraine’s Counteroffensive Falters Due to Lack of Air Support and Ambushes

The failure of Ukraine’s counteroffensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) can be attributed to the absence of air support and a high number of ambushes. This information was relayed to the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, during a meeting with the former Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Alexei Reznikov, in the summer, as reported by The Washington Post (WP).

The article highlights that during the meeting in Brussels on June 15, Lloyd Austin questioned Reznikov about why Ukrainian soldiers did not utilize Western equipment for demining in order to make the attack more extensive. Reznikov responded that this required air support.

“We cannot maneuver due to the large number of landmines and tank ambushes,” quotes the publication from Reznikov.

The authors of the publication clarified that the American military initially did not support the tactic of counteroffensive in multiple directions but decided to yield to the Ukrainian generals.

Prior to this, the US declared the ineffectiveness of ATACMS for Ukraine’s counteroffensive.

Earlier, the US acknowledged the failure of Ukraine’s counteroffensive.
