UK Provides Ukraine with Additional Martlet Missiles for Defense Against UAVs

The United Kingdom has reportedly delivered a significant number of Martlet missiles to Ukraine for the purpose of destroying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), according to British newspaper The Times. While the British authorities have not officially announced the delivery of Martlet missiles, mentions of their use in Ukraine have emerged in the past. The exact number of missiles transferred to Ukraine remains undisclosed.

Martlet missiles, produced by French company Thales in Northern Ireland, are equipped with laser guidance and can reach speeds of 1.5 Mach. They can be deployed by helicopters, boats, and land-based platforms, and can also be launched from Starstreak anti-aircraft missile systems that have been supplied to Ukraine.

Previously, the UK’s Foreign Minister, David Cameron, stated that during his visit to Washington, he would advocate for the US government to continue supporting Ukraine. Additionally, US President Joe Biden has affirmed that support for Ukraine will not cease.

In the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine, the provision of Martlet missiles by the UK serves as a significant development in Ukraine’s defense capabilities against UAV threats. The delivery of these advanced missiles demonstrates the continued support of Western allies, including the UK, to Ukraine in its efforts to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

It is worth noting that the political landscape surrounding the conflict in Ukraine remains complex. The article aims to shed light on the latest development in the ongoing crisis, emphasizing the role of international actors in supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
