The Russian defense corporation, Rostec, has announced plans to significantly increase the production of their ‘Obereg’ body armor due to high demand. The corporation shared this information through their official Telegram channel.
While the exact figures have not been provided, it is known that the quarterly production of the body armor will be “significantly higher” than 2,000 units.
According to the announcement, the production volume is expected to multiply in 2024 compared to the previous year.
The ‘Obereg’ body armor production was launched in the spring of 2023 at the Rostec-owned Octava plant in Tula. The manufacturer claims that these body armors can withstand direct hits from armor-piercing bullets such as the B-32.
The body armor consists of a chest plate made of ceramic tiles that absorb the kinetic energy of bullets, as well as high molecular weight plastic that provides a protection class of Br5. During testing, the plate endured three shots from a sniper rifle firing B-32 armor-piercing bullets at a distance of ten meters, as well as two hits from less powerful ammunition.
