West Concerned About Israel’s Permanent Buffer Zone in Gaza

Western countries are expressing concerns over Israel’s proposal to establish a permanent buffer zone in Gaza, according to an unnamed diplomat cited by Haaretz newspaper.

The Times of Israel previously reported that Israel plans to create a buffer zone along the border with the Gaza Strip after the conclusion of its ground operation.

In response to this, it has been revealed that Western countries are discussing whether or not to support the plan for the buffer zone in Gaza. They have not been provided with clarification regarding how long Israel intends to maintain it or if they plan for a long-term military presence in the area, the report states.

Another source mentioned in the report stated that Israel does not have a detailed plan for the creation of the buffer zone after the cessation of hostilities.

Meanwhile, the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, has stated that Israel’s tactical victory in Gaza could result in a strategic defeat if the Palestinian people align themselves with Hamas. Austin has repeatedly conveyed this message to Israeli leadership, urging them to avoid casualties in Gaza.

Prior to this, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to accelerate its efforts to investigate Israeli war crimes.

Earlier, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant stated that after a brief ceasefire, the operation in Gaza would continue for at least two more months.
