Putin Highlights Achievements and Challenges in Russia’s Healthcare System

Moscow, December 1 – In a recent address to participants of the “National Healthcare” Congress, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the country’s commitment to prioritizing the development of the medical sector. While acknowledging that there are still unresolved issues, Putin highlighted the progress made under the national healthcare project.

One notable achievement is the establishment of infrastructure and the training of specialists to provide assistance in cardiovascular diseases. This has enabled the timely treatment of patients suffering from strokes during the critical “golden window” period, thus avoiding severe consequences. Additionally, the implementation of ambulatory oncological care has allowed the majority of patients in remote regions to receive necessary treatment locally.

Over the past years, nearly two thousand healthcare centers, dozens of modern pediatric hospitals, and surgical facilities have been opened. The acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment and the provision of 14,000 vehicles for clinic doctors further demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving healthcare services. As a result of the coordinated efforts of the government, Ministry of Health, regional authorities, and healthcare professionals, the life expectancy has increased to nearly 74 years.

However, Putin also acknowledged that the medical sector faces new challenges. These include strengthening medical research, integrating digital technologies, adopting effective treatment methods for dangerous diseases, and ensuring infectious disease control. Addressing the issue of human resources, the president emphasized the need to address staffing problems and enhance the level and quality of medical education.

Furthermore, Putin expressed special gratitude to doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel who risk their lives to save soldiers in the zone of special military operations.

The president’s address underscores Russia’s dedication to improving healthcare services and highlights the achievements made thus far. However, it also acknowledges the ongoing challenges the country faces in this crucial sector.
