Florida Man Arrested for Street Racing Incident Resulting in Serious Crash

A Florida man has been arrested after leaving the scene of a street racing incident that resulted in a serious crash earlier this month. Jacob Steven Michael Carmack, 23, from Ocala, was identified as the driver of a Ford Mustang involved in a street race on November 18 in Marion County, Florida. The incident occurred on State Highway 200 when the Mustang collided with a Toyota Prius, causing the Mustang to veer off the road and collide with a power pole and tree. The impact caused the Mustang to burst apart and ejected its driver, who was seriously injured.

Carmack, who works as a correctional officer with CoreCivic in Citrus County, briefly stopped to check on the injured driver before fleeing and concealing his car in a nearby parking lot. Witnesses at the scene took photos of Carmack, which were shared with law enforcement. After his identification, Carmack was arrested and charged with reckless driving resulting in serious bodily injury to another, failing to remain at the scene of a crash with injuries, and racing on highways.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) stated that street racing played a role in the crash and the investigation is still ongoing. The FHP released images of the Ford Mustang driver to the public in an attempt to gather more information. The driver of the Corvette, a 38-year-old man, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. His current condition is unknown.

The incident highlights the dangers of street racing and the serious consequences it can have. Authorities are continuing their efforts to address illegal racing activities and ensure the safety of the public on the roads.
