Babysitter Arrested for Felony Child Abuse After Toddler Suffers Massive Brain Bleed

A Colorado babysitter has been arrested and is facing felony child abuse charges after causing a 2-year-old boy to suffer a massive brain bleed that required part of his skull to be removed. The arrest warrant for 25-year-old McKinley Slone Hernandez was issued on Thanksgiving, months after the incident occurred. Hernandez was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held on a $100,000 bond at Jefferson County Jail.

The incident, which took place in September, left the toddler, named Giovanni, with severe injuries that required multiple surgeries. His mother, Stefanie Reichert, revealed that Giovanni had to undergo surgery to treat the brain bleed and had part of his skull removed. After spending weeks in the hospital, he required another surgery. Reichert expressed her shock and disbelief that such harm could come from someone she considered a friend.

Giovanni’s family launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover his medical expenses, describing the situation as something no child or parent should ever have to endure. The family expressed their relief when the arrest warrant was issued, celebrating it as the best thing to happen on Thanksgiving.

Currently, Giovanni is still recovering from his injuries, with his right eye swollen shut and experiencing overall swelling. Reichert remains hopeful for his future progress and is providing constant care and support.

The Lakewood Police Department issued the arrest warrant for Hernandez, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges. The case highlights the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of children in the care of others.
