Russian Navy Ship Arrives in Cambodian Port to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

A large anti-submarine ship from the Russian Pacific Fleet, Admiral Panteleev, has arrived at the port of Kampong Saom in Cambodia. The Russian military vessel was ceremoniously welcomed in the sea port of Sihanoukville, according to TASS.

“This visit confirms Russia’s commitment to further develop and deepen its longstanding good relations with Cambodia,” noted Anatoly Borovik, Russia’s ambassador to the kingdom.

The ceremonial welcoming ceremony was also attended by Rear Admiral Ros Veasna, Deputy Commander of the Cambodian Navy’s main naval base, who highlighted that such visits are a good tradition that speaks to the trust and friendship between the two countries.

The Russian Ambassador reminded that in 1979-1980, the port of Kampong Saom played an important role in providing assistance to Cambodia’s economy after liberation from the “Khmer Rouge” regime. In particular, in the autumn of 1979, the Soviet steamship “Okhotsk” became one of the first vessels to deliver food to the port of Kampong Saom.

In July, it was reported that Russia expanded the list of countries whose citizens can obtain an electronic visa. Citizens of Cambodia, Vietnam, and Myanmar are now included in this list.

Earlier, Cambodia was invited to observe the presidential elections in Russia.
