ADL CEO Criticizes Silence on Antisemitism: A Shift in Jewish American Voters

Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt has criticized Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party for their silence during an alleged antisemitic smear campaign against Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. In an interview with The Post, Greenblatt expressed frustration that neither the White House nor the DNC called out the antisemitic attacks on Governor Shapiro.

The smear campaign targeted Governor Shapiro, who is popular among Jewish-American voters and considered a potential threat to Republican candidates in the upcoming election. However, after the smear campaign, Jewish Americans’ support for the Democratic Party may be wavering. Greenblatt warned that Jews feel “the ground shifting under their feet” due to this situation.

The ADL CEO also criticized Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for not being a helpful partner in fighting antisemitism, suggesting she should follow the example of Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres instead. The two lawmakers have been involved in a public feud over AOC’s defense of Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who has repeatedly called for the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people.

Sitting in the ADL’s midtown offices, Greenblatt reiterated his commitment to a two-state solution for Israel but acknowledged that it is becoming increasingly difficult to envision what such a solution would look like. He also expressed concerns about the growth of radical Islam in the United States and suggested that additional screening measures may be necessary for Muslim refugees entering the country, while still advocating for their rights.
