During a game between the Mets and the Nationals, both reporters donned political t-shirts featuring either former President Donald Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris while also wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat or a blue “Kamala Harris 2024” cap.
A Trump supporter who claimed stadium staff barred her from watching the game recently has since sparked this investigation into the political tolerance of Citi Field. However, the results have been surprisingly positive, as many staff members were excited to see MAGA red and openly expressed their support for the former president. In some cases, they even allowed the reporters wearing these items to skip certain security measures like bag checks.
Despite this positive response, not everyone at the stadium was thrilled by the political symbols being displayed. Some fans were overheard blowing raspberries as the MAGA-clad reporter passed by, and a disapproving usher ribbed her about former President Trump’s rumors about Haitians eating pets in Springfield, Ohio. However, this employee also complimented the Harris-repping reporter on his shirt, showing that there is still some level of political acceptance within the stadium.
This experiment comes as a contrast to a few weeks prior when Trump supporter Aura Moody, 64, claimed she and a friend were not allowed to enter Citi Field with their MAGA hats. In response to this incident, the Mets clarified that there was indeed an employee who had mistakenly enforced the stadium’s attire policy.
Overall, it seems that Citi Field has become more politically tolerant since then, allowing spectators to express their political beliefs through clothing and accessories without fear of being barred from enjoying America’s pastime.
