Trump Back on Campaign Trail After Latest Assassination Attempt: Vows Retaliation Against Electric Vehicles

Former President Donald Trump made a return to the campaign trail on Tuesday with an appearance at a town hall in Flint, Michigan, just two days after the Secret Service foiled another assassination attempt against him. Addressing the audience, he stated: “You know only consequential presidents get shot at.” He also mentioned having a conversation with President Biden and receiving a call from Vice President Kamala Harris following the incident on Sunday. Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested for the latest assassination attempt, which involved him lying in wait near Trump’s golf course with an AK-47 rifle.

Speaking of his meeting with Chinese automakers who are setting up factories in Mexico to evade tariffs and import electric vehicles into the US, Trump vowed to impose a 200% tariff on any such vehicles sold in America, calling them “unsellable.” He further acknowledged that he is aware of the criticism leveled at the Secret Service and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas following the latest assassination attempts but expressed satisfaction with their performance in this instance.

During his Fox News appearance, Trump mentioned his long-standing request for more Secret Service agents at events, noting that he believes more agents will be provided moving forward. Former Presidents Andrew Jackson and Franklin Roosevelt were also shot at by would-be assassins, while Presidents Ronald Reagan and Theodore Roosevelt survived being hit by bullets during their tenures.
