Mayor Adams’ Son Records Rap Album on 9/11 Anniversary: A Different Approach to Commemoration

On the 23rd anniversary of the tragic 9/11 terrorist attacks, while bereaved families, local and national dignitaries, as well as first responders gathered in lower Manhattan to pay their respects, Mayor Eric Adams’ son Jordan Coleman opted for a different approach. The 29-year-old used this day to record his debut rap album inside the Gracie Mansion. Coleman, who goes by the moniker “Jayoo,” is known for drill rap, a hip-hop subgenre that Adams has publicly criticized due to its links with street violence and gang affiliations.

The decision by Mayor Adams’ son to spend the anniversary recording music was met with confusion from political insiders, especially considering his father had contracted COVID-19 and could not attend the annual ceremony commemorating the lives lost in the terror attacks. Instead, Eric Adams hung a wreath outside Gracie Mansion as a symbol of honor for those who perished.

Several notable figures were present at the memorial event, including President Joe Biden, former President Donald Trump, and Vice President Kamala Harris. The three leaders stood together at Ground Zero in a remarkable display just hours after their first debate. This gathering marked one of the few times that political rivals have come together in such a manner, demonstrating unity and respect for the lives lost during the 9/11 attacks.

In contrast to the dignified gathering of officials and families at the memorial event, Jordan Coleman chose to spend the anniversary attending rapper Jeezy’s concert with radio host “Ogee Money.” This decision by Mayor Adams’ son has been met with mixed reactions, especially given his father’s public condemnation of the drill rap subgenre.

Nevertheless, the 9/11 memorial event in lower Manhattan stands as a poignant reminder of the tragedy that took place 23 years ago and serves as an opportunity for the nation to come together in memory of those who perished. The presence of political rivals like Trump and Biden highlights the importance of unity during such events, showcasing their willingness to put aside differences in order to honor the fallen and remember the lives that were lost.
