Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez, who served under George W. Bush’s administration, has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in an op-ed for Politico, calling former President Donald Trump “perhaps the most serious threat to the rule of law in a generation.” In the article, Gonzalez emphasized the importance of the president’s integrity and respect for institutions as checks on power abuses. He criticized Republicans in Congress for failing to check executive power abuses but commended Harris for her sworn fidelity to the rule of law as a former local prosecutor and state attorney general. Gonzalez also defended Harris against criticism over economic policy decisions, stating that vice presidents have limited influence on such matters. Dick Cheney, who served as Vice President under George W. Bush, endorsed Kamala Harris last week as well.
