From Border Patroller to Migrant Concierge: A Tale of Woe under Harris-Biden

A Border Patrol agent has expressed frustration over the current state of border security under the Harris-Biden administration, claiming that their job has devolved into a migrant concierge service and fearing that the crisis at the southern border will only worsen. Zachary Apotheker, a Border Patrol agent since 2020, told The Post that he misses the days when his job involved busting drug loads and apprehending illegal crossers, as opposed to escorting migrants into the country.

Apotheker confessed to witnessing mass catch-and-release of undocumented migrants who have not been properly vetted under the current administration. Since January 2021, more than 8 million migrants have crossed the southern border, including killers, rapists, terrorists, and gang members such as those from the violent Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua. In addition, over 1.7 million “gotaways” have managed to sneak over the southern border without being apprehended during the Biden administration, according to Border Patrol data.

The agent’s concerns extend beyond the influx of migrants to the safety and well-being of American citizens. He mentioned several victims of violent migrant crime, whose names now “haunt” him. Apotheker emphasized his desire to protect the country and keep criminals from entering it, but he feels that current policies are allowing them to do so with impunity.

Apotheker also expressed concerns about the handling of unaccompanied migrant children crossing the border. He said Border Patrol does not document the “biographical information” of children under the age of 14, and they do not collect biometric information for these minors. As a result, it is difficult to track down or verify the addresses of the adults receiving these children.

Several sources within Border Patrol confirmed that they do not collect biometric information for children under the age of 14. As of May 2024, 291,000 migrant children who arrived in the US as unaccompanied minors were never given a court date before being released, making it nearly impossible to track them down. Additionally, 32,000 children released with court dates failed to show up in court between October 2018 and September 2023.

Apotheker is prepared to lose his job to speak out about the current state of border security. He feels that the situation at the southern border will only get worse, and he does not want to be complicit in a potentially disastrous outcome for the country.
