Eating the Cats: A Reggaeton-Infused Parody Roasting Trump’s Feline Claims

The internet has been captivated by a new parody song that takes aim at former President Donald Trump’s debunked claim that immigrants are consuming pets in Springfield, Ohio. The music video, created by South African band Kiffness and titled “Eating the Cats,” features an edited audio clip of Trump making the unfounded statement dubbed to a Reggaeton-style beat accompanied by humorous, auto-tuned meows and woofs.

The song begins with Trump’s voice saying, “They’re eating the dogs, they’re eating the cats, they’re eating the pets of the people who live there.” Lead singer David Scott then starts singing, imploring the residents of Springfield not to eat his cat or dog and offering alternatives such as eggs and bread. As the song progresses, a husky and a cat appear on screen, their barks and meows tweaked with auto-tune for comedic effect.

By Friday, the video had amassed over 267,000 views, eliciting laughter from viewers who praised the track as “the purr-fect fall ‘banger.'” One fan even dubbed it “too too, too good.” The music video concludes with a message stating that streaming revenue generated by the song will be donated to the Clark County SPCA, an organization that supports pets in Springfield.

This parody comes on the heels of Trump’s false claim during a televised debate with Vice President Kamala Harris that Haitian migrants are eating dogs and cats in Springfield. Afterward, ABC News’ David Muir reported that the city manager had not received any credible reports of pets being harmed or mistreated by members of the immigrant community. As of now, neither Scott nor the Clark County SPCA have responded to requests for comment.
