Convicted rapist and disgraced Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein is currently undergoing treatment at Bellevue Hospital following emergency heart surgery but remains “in a lot of pain,” according to his representative, Craig Rothfeld. The former movie mogul was rushed to the hospital on Monday after experiencing chest pains and trouble breathing while being held at Rikers Island ahead of his retrial for sex crimes. It is currently unclear when Weinstein may be released as he requires additional medical care for spinal stenosis, high blood pressure, and thyroid and diabetic complications. Weinstein’s representative, Judah Engelmayer confirmed that the Miramax co-founder had been taken to Bellevue Hospital on previous occasions due to “heart issues.” The hospital declined to comment on his condition citing privacy concerns. Weinstein was previously scheduled for a pre-trial hearing in Manhattan Supreme Court but this has since been postponed due to his health situation. Despite the overturning of his sex crimes conviction and 23-year sentence by the New York State Court of Appeals, Weinstein remains behind bars as he was also sentenced to 16 years in prison by a California court for raping an Italian model in 2013. A new trial, which may include fresh sexual assault charges, has been tentatively scheduled for November 12th.
