Tragic End to Beaverton Nurse’s Honeymoon: Missing Melissa Jubane Found Dead

A nurse from Oregon who disappeared shortly after returning home from her Hawaii wedding was found dead on Saturday, after a three-day search. The Beaverton Police Department has accused the victim’s 27-year-old neighbor of her murder. Melissa Jubane, a cardiac nurse at St. Vincent Hospital in Southwest Portland, raised concerns with her friends and family when she didn’t show up for her morning shift on September 4th.

Police received a call requesting a welfare check for Jubane at her apartment, where responding officers were met by apartment complex staff and conducted a search for the missing nurse. They found no signs of Jubane inside the apartment in Beaverton’s Five Oaks neighborhood. The new bride had married her husband Bryan Llantero in Haleʻiwa, O’ahu on August 24th. Llantero last heard from his wife around 6 a.m. on the morning she did not report to the hospital, according to KHON.

Efforts by officers and family members to contact Melissa throughout the day were unsuccessful, as her phone appeared to be turned off. Searches of Melissa’s bank and credit card records yielded no new information regarding her location. Her absence without communication was deemed unusual and alarming. With no leads to Jubane’s whereabouts, she was listed as a missing person just after 3 p.m. on September 4th.

Police discovered Jubane’s remains Friday evening, over two days after police conducted the wellness check and reported her missing. As a result of an extensive investigation, it was determined that one of Melissa’s neighbors, 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert of Beaverton was involved in her disappearance,” police said Saturday morning.

Schubert was arrested Friday evening and charged with second-degree murder, according to jail records viewed by The Post. Police wouldn’t reveal any more details, citing the integrity of an active investigation. The department expressed gratitude to community members who assisted with the search for Melissa and extended their deepest condolences to her family, friends, and coworkers.

Jubane and Llantero first met in Hawaii and dated for over a decade before getting engaged last year in Oahu, according to KHON. They married on August 24th before having a ceremony with friends and family the next day. The couple flew to Washington State on September 1st to spend Labor Day with Jubane’s family before she left for the apartment in Oregon on September 2nd.

Jubane, who showed up to work on September 3rd, would stay at the apartment because it was close to work, her mother-in-law told the outlet. A coworker of Jubane paid tribute to her on Saturday, following the announcement of her death. You will be missed by all. Rest in peace you sweet wonderful person. May your family find solace in the coming weeks and years,” Zachary Horton wrote on Facebook. I’m completely taken by what has happened, but I’m so relieved that we found you; that the question of, where did you go, did not go unanswered.
