Tackling Cartel Recruitment: Vance’s Vow on Social Media Crackdown

In San Diego, California, Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance has vowed that the Trump administration will take a hard stance on social media companies, which have become hubs for cartel recruitment. He warned these tech giants will face consequences if they do not act to stop this activity. Vance criticized the platforms for profiting off facilitating criminal activities and stated that if former President Donald Trump were elected in November, the Trump-Vance team would strengthen the Department of Justice’s ability to hold social media companies accountable. The cartels have been turning to social media platforms like TikTok and Snapchat to recruit US citizens into their human smuggling operations with promises of significant financial rewards. As a result, cartels have made billions from this criminal trade. Vance’s visit to the border is his second since Trump named him as his running mate. Under the current Biden administration, over 1.7 million migrant gotaways are known to have crossed the border, more than double the number in fiscal year 2020.
