School Shooter Receives Fatal Christmas Gift: AR-15 Rifle Used in Georgia Tragedy

The Georgia school shooting on Wednesday that left four people dead was committed with an AR-15-style rifle that was given as a Christmas gift last year by the suspect’s father, according to law enforcement sources who spoke with The Post. Colt Gray, 14 years old, opened fire inside Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on Wednesday morning, killing two students and two teachers before being taken into custody by authorities.

The rifle allegedly used in the horrifying incident was given to the suspect just seven months after law enforcement officials visited Gray and his father, Colin, in May when the FBI received tips about online school shooting threats. The bureau stated that online posts sent to them last year included photos of guns. Jackson County sheriff investigators identified Gray, who was 13 at the time, as a possible suspect based on these tips. However, after interviewing both Gray and his father, law enforcement officials did not find enough evidence to take further action against him.

At the time, Colin Gray told police that he had hunting guns in their home but denied that Colt had unsupervised access to them. The teen also denied making any threats online. Despite this assurance from the family, more than a year later, Gray allegedly opened fire inside his high school, killing students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, as well as math teachers Richard Aspinwall and Christina Irimie.

In total, eight students and one teacher were injured during the mass shooting. Gray is currently facing four counts of murder in connection with the incident, according to police. The Post was unable to reach Colt Gray’s father, Colin Gray, for comment on Thursday.
