Obama Brothers’ Rivalry: Half-Brother Malik Vows Support for Trump Again

The sibling rivalry between former President Barack Obama and his half-brother, Abon’go Malik Obama, continues to unfold publicly. In recent news, Malik revealed that he would once again be voting for Donald Trump in the upcoming November election. A Kenya-born naturalized US citizen, Malik has a history of supporting Trump against former members of the Obama administration in the past two elections.

This latest snub of Vice President Kamala Harris comes shortly after she was endorsed by former Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyo. Interestingly, Barack Obama reportedly helped elevate Harris to the top of the 2024 Democratic ticket to replace President Biden. Malik’s support for Trump is not new; he explained in a 2016 interview with The Post that he liked how Trump “speaks from the heart.

While both are sons of Barack Hussein Obama Sr., a Kenyan economist who died in a car accident in 1982, Malik referred to his younger half-sibling as a “deep disappointment” and blamed Hillary Clinton for his departure from the Democratic Party. He criticized her use of a private email server while she was America’s top diplomat.

Malik Obama also expressed interest in meeting Trump at the time, which came to pass when he became a featured guest of the Trump campaign during the third presidential debate with Clinton in Las Vegas. In 2020, Malik told The Post that he was “110% still with Trump” and added that Biden looked like he would “drop dead.” Public records show that Malik maintains a residence in Maryland and was registered to vote in the state as of 2016.

Malik has had a strained relationship with his younger half-brother, stemming from their differing political views and personal issues. This includes the launch of a Virginia-based charity by Malik that faced scrutiny for failing to register and lying about being a tax-exempt organization. A review of Malik’s social media presence suggests that he switched to the Republican Party due to his socially conservative viewpoints on same-sex marriage and abortion.

Despite their public rivalry, Malik Obama continues to support Trump and has expressed interest in meeting him again during this election cycle.
