Kinaya Willis, the daughter of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, was arrested last month for allegedly driving with a suspended license, as per a report by DailyMail. The Texas Southern University student was pulled over in Tyrone, Georgia on August 24 for using her cellphone while driving, leading to the discovery that her license had been revoked. Kinaya is reportedly pregnant and claimed she was unaware of her suspension due to being occupied with matters related to her pregnancy. Her mother, Fani Willis, has been leading the prosecution of Donald Trump’s 2020 election interference case in Georgia.
Kinaya Willis was arrested at the scene on a misdemeanor charge of driving with a revoked or suspended license and later had her mugshot taken at Fayette County Jail before being released. She is scheduled for an arraignment on October 24, where she faces a minimum of two days in jail, a $500 fine, and a six-month extension of the suspension if convicted.
Meanwhile, the prosecution led by Fani Willis against former President Donald Trump has been paused since June as the Georgia Court of Appeals evaluates Trump’s effort to disqualify her from the case. In an ongoing battle, Trump and eight co-defendants have asked the court in March to hear their arguments accusing Willis of prosecutorial misconduct due to her relationship with former special prosecutor Nathan Wade. The appeals court is expected to hear arguments on this matter in December, well after the upcoming presidential election on November 5.
Fani Willis has faced multiple investigations launched by state and federal lawmakers over her alleged misuse of taxpayer money and relationship with Wade since she secured a grand jury indictment against Trump and 18 others last August. Trump, along with his 13 remaining co-defendants, have pleaded not guilty to felony charges accusing them of breaking Georgia’s anti-racketeering law in an alleged effort to overturn the 2020 election results in the Peach State.
