Props and costumes from the beloved sitcom “Friends” are going under the hammer on September 23rd to commemorate the show’s 30th anniversary. Among the items up for bid is a cashmere sweater worn by actor Matthew Perry, who portrayed Chandler Bing in the show. The pre-sale value of the item was $1,500; however, it is expected to increase significantly following Perry’s untimely death on October 28th in Los Angeles and the arrest of his physician and drug dealer earlier in August.
The teal, 100% cashmere, polo-style sweater features long sleeves and a two-button front closure. It is labeled ‘Autumn Cashmere. Size L.’ Chandler can be seen wearing the sweater in Season 7, Episode 10 titled “The One With The Holiday Armadillo,” in a scene at Central Perk where Monica informs him she won’t be changing her last name to Bing. He also wears it when Phoebe brings her late mother’s Christmas candy dish – a human skull – for the gang’s holiday party.
Julien’s Auctions is staging the sale, and Executive Director and Co-Founder Darren Julien emphasized the importance of these items as tangible connections to the magic of “Friends,” one of the most beloved shows in TV history that shaped a generation and made viewers laugh, cry, and feel like they were part of the “Friends” gang.
