Car-mapsed Lovers End Up in River: A Romantic Ride Gone Wrong in Philly

A couple’s intimate moment in their car led to a near-disastrous event after their SUV rolled into a river in Philadelphia during the early hours of Wednesday. The incident occurred around 4:15 a.m., when the unidentified pair were having sex in their 2020 Range Rover near the Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park.

According to police, one of the lovers’ limbs accidentally bumped into the SUV’s gear stick, causing the vehicle to tumble over the edge and sink into the water, approximately two miles from Philadelphia City Hall.

The couple managed to escape from the car before it hit the water and plunged beneath the surface. Neither of them sustained any injuries during the incident. Police believe that the freak mishap occurred while the duo was “getting busy” in their vehicle.

At around 9 a.m., the Range Rover was retrieved from the river, with images showing it completely submerged near the Strawberry Mansion Bridge. The Philadelphia police shared that no charges are pending against the couple involved in the incident.

This is not the first time a car has ended up in the Schuylkill River; a separate vehicle met a similar fate just weeks prior, according to Fox 29. In this instance, a witness reported seeing a 4-door sedan driving near the river when it suddenly stopped and backed into the water. Despite all four doors being locked, no one was found inside the vehicle when rescuers arrived at the scene. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to investigate the August 16 incident.
