A shocking video has emerged showing a young woman being choked by an unidentified man as she entered her apartment building near Prospect Park in Brooklyn. The horrifying incident took place at around 11 p.m. on Thursday when the 25-year-old victim was making her way through the lobby of the building located in Prospect Lefferts Gardens.
According to police, the man snuck up behind the woman and wrapped his arm around her neck. As she began to scream “Stop!” and “Help!”, and tried to fight back, the attacker told her to “Shut up” before releasing her. The video of the encounter, obtained by ABC 7, shows the suspect pushing the button for the elevator while seemingly unaware that he was being recorded by a security camera.
The man quickly approached the woman and placed his arm around her neck. She can be seen in the clip kicking him as they struggle for several seconds before he finally releases her. Following the attack, she dialed 911, but luckily, she was not physically hurt.
Police are now actively searching for the attacker, who is described as a male with a dark complexion. He fled the scene on foot after releasing his victim. The incident has left residents in the building near the intersection of Ocean and Parkside avenues feeling uneasy and on edge as authorities continue their search for the assailant.
Neighbors have expressed concern about their safety, with one anonymous resident telling ABC 7, “It’s crazy because he was literally like five feet behind her in the picture I saw.” This has made them think twice about how they move about their neighborhood and prompted some residents to consider installing security measures such as doorbell cameras.
Another neighbor, Carlos Vasquez, revealed that he had already purchased a doorbell camera after experiencing something similar in his building. There have been a lot of weird things happening in this building. I’ve been followed in before myself,” he told the station.
As the search for the attacker continues, residents are being urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
