Raising Awareness: Giant Sweatpants & Milk Cartons Spotlight Hostage Crisis at DNC

A massive replica of Israeli hostage Naama Levy’s bloody sweatpants was erected near the Democratic National Convention (DNC) venue in Chicago, as more than 100 hostages remain in Hamas terrorists’ custody. The exhibit aimed to raise awareness about the ongoing crisis and keep the issue at the forefront of people’s minds. Alongside the replica, several giant milk cartons with photographs of US citizens held captive by Hamas were placed along a sidewalk at the “Hostage Square” pop-up installation.

The display was created in response to the Israel-Hamas war looming over the DNC and the 2024 election while Washington pushes for a cease-fire deal that could lead to the captives’ long-awaited freedom. Israeli-American Council CEO Elan Carr emphasized that most Americans support Israel and want to see an end to Hamas’ cruelty and hold on hostages.

Israeli Ambassador to the US Michael Herzog stated that the Israeli hostages have been held for 319 days, calling it an “open wound” for their loved ones and the nation. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is working towards a temporary peace in Gaza while achieving a hostage release deal as he travels across the Middle East.

The display aimed to highlight the importance of supporting Israel and bringing the hostages home, emphasizing that Israel must win this battle against terrorism.
