Unraveling the Nord Stream Sabotage: A Shift in Blame and Growing Tensions between Germany and Ukraine

The recent Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report on Nord Stream is another major attempt by mainstream gatekeepers to shift the narrative surrounding the sabotage and distance President Zelensky from his supposedly rogue top general at the time who ‘oversaw’ the covert operation. It has now become crystal clear that Ukraine did it, Russia did not, and there was CIA involvement or at least foreknowledge of the event.

This sudden U-turn in the narrative was meant to soften the blow from Germany’s decision to cut off Ukraine’s unprecedented grift, as German lawmakers are now expressing their anger at being used and abused by Kiev. The NS2 pipeline had been a years-long, multi-billion dollar Russia to Germany natural gas vital infrastructure project costing $11 billion to build.

Alice Weidel, a member of the German Bundestag and co-chair of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, has been among the loudest Berlin officials in denouncing Kiev. She is calling for Ukraine to compensate Germany for the damage caused to its economy as a result of the September 26, 2022 underwater bombings. Weidel stated that any ‘aid payments’ burdening German taxpayers should be stopped, and the economic damage caused by the pipeline sabotage presumed to have been ordered by Zelensky should be billed to Ukraine.

Tensions between Berlin and Kiev have further strained as the German Prosecutor General’s Office issued an arrest warrant for a Ukrainian citizen suspected of involvement in the pipeline sabotage plot, with at least two accomplices identified as experienced divers who directly assisted in installing explosive devices to the pipelines. The swift effect of this development led to a Saturday report from Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) stating that Germany will stop new military aid to Ukraine as part of the ruling coalition’s plan to reduce spending.

The moratorium on new assistance, which is already in effect, will affect new requests for funding, not previously approved aid. Berlin, Europe’s main supplier of military aid to Kyiv, had signaled a change in course on Ukraine last month when the governing coalition adopted a preliminary deal on a draft budget for 2025, detailing plans to slash future assistance to Ukraine by half to €4 billion. It now appears that even this token amount could be cut to zero.

The success of Weidel’s messaging and calls for getting German public funds back from Ukraine remains to be seen as the country experiences well over a year of ‘war fatigue.’ With increasing tensions escalating into a nuclear-armed showdown between Russia and NATO, it is likely that this issue will continue to garner attention.

Longtime investigative journalist Seymour Hersh predicted all of this narrative manipulation months ago and stated that alternative NS2 sabotage theories in the New York Times and German press were ‘concocted’ by the CIA. The unraveling Nord Stream sabotage narrative will likely continue to unfold, revealing more details about the event.
