Mass. Boat Crash Leaves Two Injured, Marine Investigation Underway

On Friday afternoon, a collision between a motorboat and a sailboat off the coast of Massachusetts left two people injured by a boat propeller. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. in Hingham Bay near Grape Island, approximately 15 miles south of Boston. The Weymouth Police Department confirmed this information to The Post.

According to the US Coast Guard, the 38-foot power boat was on its way out from Hingham into the main channel when it struck the 21-foot sailboat. After the collision, a male and female passenger aboard the sailboat appeared to have suffered injuries consistent with propeller strikes. Officials stated that the woman’s injuries were serious in nature.

Upon receiving the distress call, the Weymouth Police Department’s marine unit arrived at the scene first, quickly applying tourniquets to the victims’ wounds before transporting them to local hospitals for treatment. Meanwhile, two people from the motorboat were taken in for questioning by authorities.

Overhead footage from WCVB displayed a nearly completely submerged sailboat behind the motorboat, surrounded by various law enforcement and safety personnel. The Massachusetts Environmental Police will be conducting an investigation into the incident. The Post has reached out to the agency and USCG for more information on the matter.
