Suspect Caught on Cam: Doorman’s Heroics Save Teen from Attack Near Gracie Mansion

A newly released video reveals a man, accused of attacking a teenage girl in an attempted rape, strolling the streets near Gracie Mansion in the middle of the night. The suspect was captured by surveillance cameras wandering on Upper East Side at the time when a 19-year-old girl was stalked and pinned to the ground.

In one clip released by the NYPD, a slim man with a beard is seen wearing a white shirt and carrying a black umbrella casually walking along the sidewalk. In another, he can be seen wearing a black shirt and sprinting across a crosswalk. The third clip shows him standing on the sidewalk to check his phone, glancing over his shoulder several times before resuming his walk.

Cops believe this man is responsible for trying to rape a young woman around 1:20 a.m. near East 90th Street and East End. His actions were interrupted when a heroic doorman, Hector Mateo, heard the girl’s cries and chased him off.

This young lady was on the floor frantically crying, blood on her shirt and nose,” said Mateo to The Post.

The suspect fled westbound on East 90th Street and is still at large. The victim was taken to New York Presbyterian Cornell Medical Center where she is in stable condition, according to police.
