Older Voters: A Key Factor in Trump’s Path to Victory

A recent survey from AARP suggests that the path to victory for Republicans in the presidential race may lie in mobilizing the 50 and up crowd, with high-propensity voters who are breaking for Donald Trump. In a tight race, with Trump and Harris currently tied at 48% on a head-to-head ballot, older voters show more support for Trump than younger ones. Among those aged 50 to 64 years, Trump leads by 4 points in both the full field and binary battle scenarios. With those aged 65 and up, Trump dominates, with a lead of 13 points in the two-way ballot test and an impressive 15 points (56% to 41%) when the larger field is considered. AARP Georgia State Director Vanessa Payne believes that these older voters will make the difference in this election, as they are the largest voting bloc in the state. Trump’s focus on protecting Social Security and his pledge of no tax for seniors on Social Security could resonate with this demographic. However, there may be an opening for Harris among older Georgians who are caregivers for other family members. The poll, conducted by Republican Fabrizio-Ward shop and the Democratic Impact Research, surveyed 600 likely voters between July 24 and July 31, with a focus on older voters.
