In the heated Michigan Senate race, Republican former Rep. Mike Rogers is lagging behind Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin in fundraising but has received a significant boost after securing an influential conservative endorsement. The American Prosperity Action (APF) group endorsed Rogers with just six days to go until the Aug. 6 primary, where he faces off against former colleague Justin Amash.
Recent polls show Slotkin leading Rogers by approximately five points. Both candidates face stiff competition in their respective primaries; while Rogers is up against unconventional Republican-turned-independent Amash, Slotkin aims to outshine actor Hill Harper. AFP Action praised Rogers for his commitment to oppose inflationary government spending and secure the neglected border under the current administration, promising a substantial $1.7 million ad buy in August and additional “data and digital capabilities.
As of June 30, Slotkin has raised an impressive $22.3 million, with approximately $9.6 million still available to her campaign. On the other hand, Rogers has managed to raise $4.9 million, leaving him with a balance of $2.5 million on hand. If chosen as the Republican nominee, his Democratic opponent would have roughly four times more cash at their disposal. Amash’s fundraising efforts haven’t reached the million-dollar mark, while Harper, a Democratic candidate, has raised $2.4 million and holds $210,000 in campaign funds.
The seat, previously held by retiring Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow, will be up for grabs this November, following her completion of the fourth term. Michigan’s other senator, Gary Peters, has been touted as a potential “dark horse” running mate for presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris. With his seat up for re-election in 2026, the outcomes of this year’s election will significantly impact the political landscape in Michigan and across the United States.
