Lancaster’s Homeless Crisis: A Tale of Pushed Deserts

Homelessness in Los Angeles County has reached record levels.

The city of Lancaster, at the northern end of the Metro transit system, has seen a significant increase in homeless encampments.

Civil rights groups have accused authorities of pushing homeless people into the desert.

Mayor Rex Parris argues that the county’s neglect and L.A.’s tendency to push its problems north are the main reasons for the increase in homelessness in Lancaster.

The LASD says they provide offers of services and shelter when enforcing local ordinances related to homeless encampments, but cannot force people into accepting them.
