In recent developments, CNN’s data analyst Harry Enten presented some concerning information regarding Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid during a network segment. This revelation follows President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the reelection race and his subsequent endorsement of Harris.
Enten began by expressing the excitement surrounding Kamala Harris but emphasized that it would be difficult to defeat Donald Trump in an election. He explained how Trump’s favorable rating has improved significantly since the Republican National Convention, with a 40% favorability rating according to the ABC News-Ipsos poll and a 46% approval rating from the Quinnipiac University poll, which are both historical highs for him.

When asked about how Kamala Harris compares to Trump in terms of popularity, Enten explained that while it’s true that Harris was polling better than Biden, she still faces a close race with Trump up by one point nationally. He also highlighted that Trump is currently performing five points better in the polls than he did four years ago against Joe Biden, despite losing the popular vote.
Enten concluded that for Kamala Harris to win the election against Donald Trump, she would need to significantly improve her favorability ratings and outperform her current national standing, as a tie in the national popular vote might not be enough to secure a victory for her.
A recent CNN survey conducted by SSRS found that 49% of respondents supported Trump, while 46% backed Harris. The poll was conducted between July 22-23, shortly after Biden announced he was abandoning his reelection bid. This survey followed a previous one in April and June where Trump led Biden by six points among registered voters who had participated in CNN surveys during that time.
