A recent survey conducted by CNN shows promising results for former President Donald Trump, just days after current President Joe Biden withdrew his re-election bid and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement. The poll, conducted by SSRS between July 22-23 among registered voters who had previously participated in CNN surveys in April and June, revealed that 49% of respondents supported Trump while 46% backed Harris.
This survey comes after Biden announced he would not be running for re-election and endorsed Kamala Harris as his chosen successor. In a letter posted to social media and various online platforms, the President wrote: “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President…And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.
Shortly after Biden’s announcement, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk criticized Harris by sharing an old video clip in which she introduces herself with her pronouns, stating: “Imagine 4 years of this…” Fox News host Sean Hannity also highlighted Harris’ role as the one responsible for covering up President Joe Biden’s declining mental health and acuity during their nearly four-year term.
Despite Musk’s and others’ criticism, Trump remains in a strong position with 49% of survey respondents supporting him. This is an increase from previous CNN polls conducted in April and June when Trump led Biden by six points. As the race for the presidency continues to take shape, it will be interesting to see how these dynamics play out in the coming months leading up to the election.
