Clintons Join President Biden in Endorsing Kamala Harris as Future Democratic Nominee

Former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton have publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party nominee after President Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election on Sunday. The couple expressed their support for Harris through a statement posted to social media, emphasizing that they will do whatever it takes to support her candidacy in the upcoming election.

We are honored to join the President in endorsing Vice President Harris and will do whatever we can to support her,” the Clintons wrote in their joint statement. We’ve lived through many ups and downs, but nothing has made us more worried for our country than the threat posed by a second Trump term.

Their endorsement of Kamala Harris comes as no surprise, given their strong ties to the Democratic Party and their shared desire to prevent another four years of a Donald Trump presidency. In their statement, the Clintons made no mention of Biden’s troubled tenure in office, which has been marked by high inflation rates, a chaotic border crisis, and new conflicts overseas.

Former President Barack Obama, whom Hillary Clinton served as secretary of state during his time in office, has not publicly endorsed any candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination. His statement about Biden’s decision to step down focused on the importance of unity within the party and the need for a strong Democratic platform moving forward.

We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead,” Obama wrote. But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges.

In his letter announcing his decision not to seek re-election, Biden highlighted the accomplishments of his administration, including the passage of significant climate legislation and the appointment of the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as president and pledged to continue working on behalf of the American people until the end of his term.

It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” Biden wrote in his letter. And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.

With Joe Biden’s decision not to run for re-election, Kamala Harris is now poised to become the Democratic Party’s nominee for the presidency in the 2024 election. The Clintons’ endorsement and the backing of other key party figures will be crucial in her bid to win the nomination and ultimately defeat Donald Trump or any other Republican candidate in the general election.
