Former President Donald Trump was nearly assassinated at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania last Saturday by an attacker wielding a .22 caliber AR-15-style rifle. The assailant, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, managed to graze Trump’s right ear with the bullet. This shocking incident resulted in the death of one rally attendee and injuries to two others. Quickly responding to the situation, Secret Service counter-snipers fatally shot Crooks shortly after he fired at Trump.
Following the near miss, Donald Trump’s White House physician, Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), has provided an important update on Trump’s condition. Speaking with conservative podcaster Benny Johnson before the Republican National Convention began, Jackson confirmed that Trump was not suffering any concussive effects from the bullet wound. Trump had been formally nominated as the 2024 Republican presidential pick at the convention.
At the event, Trump appeared with a large bandage over his right ear where the bullet had grazed him. Examining the former president before the convention, Jackson said that the bullet had “just taken the top of his ear off” but added that it was far enough away from his head to not cause any concussive effects.
