Trump Triumphs: Nominated Amidst Near-Assassination Attempt at RNC

The Republican National Convention kicked off Monday with an atmosphere of cautious optimism and high spirits as delegates gathered at Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum to formally nominate Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential race, just days after a near-assassination attempt on the former president during a campaign event.

Trump was officially nominated with 2,387 of the 2,429 pledged delegates in a roll call vote, surpassing the minimum 1,215 required to secure the nomination. The convention began with speeches from high-profile Republican figures and musical performances by artists like Chris Janson.

Outside the convention center, crowds of left-wing demonstrators gathered to protest against the GOP, holding signs that supported various causes such as pro-abortion rights, ending the blockade on Cuba, and opposing Trump’s conservative Supreme Court justice.

Despite the near-assassination attempt on the former president during a campaign event just days prior, the mood at the convention remained largely positive, with delegates expressing their support for Trump as the party’s nominee.
