Protector of Dreams: Remembering Fallen Officer Emilia Rennhack

On Saturday morning, hundreds of police officers gathered at New Hyde Park Funeral Home to pay their final respects to Emilia Rennhack, a fallen sister in the force. Mourned by her loved ones and coworkers, Rennhack’s life was tragically cut short when she and three others were killed by a suspected drunk driver who crashed through a Suffolk County nail salon on June 28th. The incident occurred while Rennhack was getting her nails done in preparation for an upcoming wedding.

New York City Mayor Adams addressed the crowds at the funeral, sharing how Emilia had come from Poland with her family to pursue the American dream and eventually joined the police force, where she met her husband, Detective Carl Rennhack. The two worked together at the 102nd precinct in Queens before falling in love and marrying.

She wore the uniform to protect the people of this city,” Adams said. She found her love in Carl, who is also a detective in the New York City Police Department. They were married together, but they have a love affair with our city.

Rennhack’s husband, Carl, made his first public comments at his wife’s funeral. He remembered Emilia as holding multiple titles: wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, godmother, friend, and police officer. He talked about their first date, when they went for a bite to eat after finishing their shifts at the same time, and how quickly their relationship progressed from there. The two traveled the world together, creating beautiful memories and stories, with Emilia even bringing Carl back to Poland to meet her family.

We became inseparable,” he said. Our lives intertwined.

Emilia and Carl married in September, with online wedding photos showing Emilia in an elegant white dress. As Carl spoke at the funeral, he held back tears while saying, “My beautiful wife, I love you. I know we’ll meet again. I miss you.

Anna Dragone, Carl’s mother’s best friend, shared that the couple had recently put a down payment on a home in Farmingdale just days before Emilia’s death. Now, Emilia’s parents are considering moving back to Poland after losing their daughter.

A fellow police officer who worked with Emilia at the 102nd precinct said she would be missed and that it was a very sad day for them all.
