Hurricane Beryl: A Dangerous Approach to Southern Texas

Hurricane Beryl is anticipated to make landfall in southern Texas on Monday morning with devastating winds reaching up to 85 mph, prompting forecasters to warn residents to closely monitor the storm. The Category 1 hurricane is expected to hit near Corpus Christi around 7 a.m., after having caused at least ten deaths across the Caribbean over the past week.

Fox Weather meteorologist Cody Braud advises locals to remain vigilant, as short-term changes and fluctuations in intensity could occur during the storm’s progression. It 100% needs to be monitored,” he said. Texas residents should prepare for potential heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding in areas extending as far north as Port Lavaca beginning Sunday night.

Braud recommends that residents have a plan in place and be ready to evacuate if the storm strengthens and local authorities advise evacuation. Earlier this week, Hurricane Beryl caused significant damage in the southeast Caribbean, leveling buildings and displacing hundreds of people. The storm brought over 12 hours of heavy rainfall to southern Jamaica on Wednesday, leaving more than 500 people without shelter.

As of Friday, the deadly hurricane has claimed at least ten lives according to BBC News, and had struck Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula near the resort town of Tulum as a Category 2 hurricane. As residents of southern Texas brace for Hurricane Beryl’s impact, they are reminded to stay informed about the storm’s progression and be prepared to act accordingly if necessary.
