Lemonade Chugging Contest Goes Awry: World Record Holder Rescues Vomiting Competitor

On Thursday, Nathan’s lemonade-chugging contest on Coney Island took an unfortunate turn when a contestant projectile vomited all over the stage, as captured in a video. The orange-mohawk-topped contender had just chugged a portion of his gallon of lemonade before the reigning champion, Eric “Badlands’’ Booker, swiftly finished his container, and the Brooklyn match was called.

As Booker began walking off the platform with his champion’s belt slung over his left shoulder, he passed his fellow competitor – who promptly barfed, spewing liquid out like a fountain, according to footage. The crowd broke out in groans, but Booker quickly put his hand on the man’s shoulder and patted him before leading him away.

Booker, who has a YouTube channel featuring him chugging soda, drank his gallon of lemonade in a new world record time of 21 seconds, breaking his previous record from last year of 23.08 seconds, according to the contest’s organizers. The victory marked Booker’s fifth consecutive win since the competition started back in 2021.

In contrast, Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest crowned a new champion when longtime winner Joey Chestnut stepped down over a dispute involving vegan hot dogs. Chicago native Patrick Bertoletti, 39, emerged victorious and claimed the coveted Mustard Belt after consuming an impressive 58 hot dogs and buns in total. While still an extraordinary feat, this figure falls short of Chestnut’s record of 71 set back in 2021.
