A knife-wielding assailant was fatally shot by police officers on Thursday, after he killed his 8-year-old brother and stabbed both of his parents in a Queens apartment, according to police reports. The incident occurred at an “extremely small” residence within the building located at 147-25 94th Ave. in Jamaica, shortly before 5:30 p.m.
The mother, who had been stabbed multiple times, managed to escape the apartment and desperately sought help from neighbors, pleading for her life as she bled heavily from her injuries. Police were alerted to the situation and immediately dispatched to the scene upon receiving the distress call.
Upon arrival at the residence, officers discovered a horrifying sight: The 20-year-old perpetrator had his father in a headlock over the kitchen sink, with a knife pressed tightly against his throat, threatening his life. NYPD Chief John Chell stated that the officers repeatedly ordered the attacker to drop the weapon, first in English and then in Spanish, but he refused to comply.
In an attempt to save the father’s life, one of the police officers fired a single shot at the assailant, successfully hitting him and putting an end to the dangerous situation. The young boy and his older brother succumbed to their injuries at the hospital where they were taken for treatment, while their parents, aged 29 and 43, continue to receive medical care for their wounds.
In a miraculous turn of events, an 8-month-old infant who was also present in the apartment during the incident emerged unscathed from the bloodbath. Police are still working diligently to determine the exact relationship between the assailant and his young victim, whether they were biological brothers, stepbrothers, or had some other connection.
