California’s Unwavering Support: Newsom Backs Biden’s 2024 Run Amid Debate Concerns

California Governor Gavin Newsom remains firmly committed to supporting the Biden-Harris 2024 presidential ticket, despite admitting during a Democratic campaign event in Michigan that the presidential debate did not go as well as hoped for former President Donald Trump’s opponent, Joe Biden. In an effort to bolster support for the embattled president, Governor Newsom attended a meeting with other Democratic governors at the White House on Wednesday night.

Newsom spoke candidly about his experience representing the campaign following the debate, saying he had prepared talking points but ultimately decided not to use them in order to highlight that things had not gone as well as anticipated. The California governor has denied claims that he’s running a “shadow campaign” to replace Biden and expressed confidence in Biden’s ability to lead the country.

Next week, Governor Newsom will be traveling to New Hampshire to headline a Democratic campaign event. This move has further fueled speculation about his potential role as a replacement for Biden if he decides not to run in 2024. However, Newsom insists that he is fully supportive of Biden and believes in the president’s character and ability to govern effectively.

Leading up to last week’s first presidential debate of the 2024 election cycle, questions about Biden’s mental acuity emerged after a Washington Journal report revealed concerns among lawmakers on Capitol Hill. Despite these concerns, Governor Newsom continues to stand firmly behind President Biden and his re-election campaign, dismissing rumors that he may be running a shadow campaign to replace him in the future.
