Biden on Representation: From JFK to Ketanji Brown Jackson

WASHINGTON – In an interview released on Thursday, President Biden told a black radio station that he understood their struggle for representation as he did not believe that Catholics could be president before John F. Kennedy’s election more than six decades ago. The 81-year-old president mentioned his nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court and how it might impact “a young girl who is in school and having trouble.” Biden then reflected on his own journey, recalling that he looked at John Kennedy and thought, “Why can’t I get elected?” He emphasized the importance of representation for people to look up to.

The president also addressed concerns about his performance during the debate with former President Donald Trump, admitting he had a bad night but asserting that 90 minutes on stage would not erase his accomplishments over three and a half years in office. In another pre-recorded interview with The Earl Ingram Show out of Wisconsin, Biden admitted to having “screwed up” the face-off with Trump. However, he remains determined to win the election against Trump once again.

Despite the debate debacle, President Biden assured that he has no intention of dropping out of the presidential race and denied any rumors of a potential change to the Democratic party’s presidential ticket ahead of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next month. Throughout both interviews, Biden criticized former President Trump for his recent criminal conviction and highlighted differences between his policies and those of Trump. He also discussed his own accomplishments, such as leading the economy back from the brink and working with Republicans to expand veterans’ health care.
