Tragedy struck a Kentucky gun shop on Saturday when an accidental discharge from another customer’s weapon resulted in the death of a new grandfather. The incident occurred at Humphrey Double H Farms Enterprises Inc. in Carrollton, around 8:30 p.m., state troopers reported on Monday.
An unidentified shopper was viewing a firearm and began to manipulate it, leading to the accidental discharge of a single round. The bullet struck Chad Wainscott, aged 50, who was also inside the store at the time of the incident.
Upon witnessing the tragic event, other customers immediately rushed to Wainscott’s aid until emergency medical services (EMS) arrived on the scene. However, despite their efforts and that of local hospital staff, Wainscott ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Wainscott, who had recently become a grandfather to baby Lance, was remembered fondly by family and friends for his kind-hearted nature. One mourner wrote on his obituary page: “Chad had a heart of gold … would NEVER let a conversation end with goodbye always See you Later! A beautiful soul all the way around.
Law enforcement officials have stated that there are no charges in relation to the shooting death, as the gunman is currently cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Wainscott, affectionately nicknamed “Little Chigger” by his loved ones, was a farmer who had worked alongside his father for several years. His passion for the great outdoors was well-known in the community, with his favorite pastimes including hunting, collecting firearms, hats and knives, searching for four-leaf clovers, and capturing the beauty of sunsets and cows through photography.
The family expressed that Chad’s warm smile and infectious personality would be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
