Trump: States Should Decide on Abortion, But I’m Amazing

Former President Donald Trump highlighted his administration’s role in ending Roe v. Wade at the Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference held in Washington DC just two days before the anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling that overturned the landmark decision. Trump specifically praised the six Supreme Court justices responsible for the reversal, calling them “wise” and “courageous.

In his speech, Trump emphasized the importance of allowing individual states to decide on the right to abortion as a means of ensuring that the people’s voices are heard. He noted that some states may be more conservative or liberal when it comes to this issue, but ultimately, he believes the decision should lie with the voters in each state.

While Trump has consistently taken credit for the overturning of Roe v. Wade during his campaign trail, he has deferred questions about a national ban on abortion until recently. In April, he released a video on his Truth Social page stating that the specific stage at which pregnancy termination could be permitted should be determined by each state individually.

The former president also cautioned Republicans against pushing for an outright ban on abortion, emphasizing the need to win elections first before tackling such a contentious issue. His stance on the matter has been met with mixed reactions from his supporters, as some expect him to take a more staunchly pro-life position in line with the views of many within the evangelical movement – a key part of Trump’s political base.
