Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a Republican, has criticized President Joe Biden for his open-border policies, calling his administration a “failure.” During an interview on Fox News with host Jesse Watters, Sanders discussed the challenges faced by law enforcement in deporting people who have crossed the border illegally and are involved in criminal activities.
Sanders argued that President Biden has the power to shut down the border and could reinstate the “remain in Mexico” policy, among other measures to secure the border. She expressed concern about the amount of fentanyl seized in Arkansas alone, enough to potentially kill every person in the state, as an example of the impact of the open border policies.
Watters asked if Sanders believes President Biden loves the country, to which she responded that his actions indicate otherwise. She pointed out that under Biden’s leadership, the economy has weakened and the border situation has worsened significantly, making the United States appear vulnerable to both friends and enemies.
Sanders emphasized the importance of securing the border as a fundamental duty of the president and criticized President Biden for failing to do so. Meanwhile, Texas Governor Greg Abbott continues to defy the White House and federal courts regarding his state’s efforts to combat illegal immigration after years of dealing with millions of migrants following Biden’s repeal of his predecessor’s highly effective border security policies.
Abbott announced the construction of a “forward operating base” near the southern border to bolster the National Guard’s efforts to secure the border in the face of perceived federal apathy toward the unprecedented surge in illegal crossings. The FOB will occupy 80 acres of land near Eagle Pass and have the capacity to accommodate up to 1,800 troops in individual rooms, with an additional 500 troops in the case of special deployments.
Last week, federal appeals court judges appointed by Republican presidents dealt a legal blow to Abbott regarding his state’s actions along the volatile and chaotic U.S.-Mexico border.
