A former White House physician has once again expressed concerns over President Joe Biden’s mental state following a recent Wall Street Journal report that cited lawmakers and others who have interacted with the president in recent months, noting his cognitive decline. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), who served under Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump, reiterated his previous warnings about Biden’s declining mental condition during an interview with Fox News following the Journal report earlier this week.
According to Jackson, “The article’s just documenting what I’ve been saying all along: he’s not fit to be the commander-in-chief. He’s got significant issues. He shouldn’t have the job. You know, it’s a national security issue for us.” This statement comes after a groundbreaking report by The Wall Street Journal, which claimed that congressional leaders and others who have met with Biden have observed he “seems slower now” and is “someone who experiences both good moments and bad ones.
The White House has firmly denied the allegations made in the report, accusing it of being a Republican hit piece. However, some Democrats were interviewed for the Journal’s article, and while they have since walked back their statements about Biden’s mental decline after the administration contacted them, concerns about the president’s cognitive abilities persist.
Several instances throughout Biden’s term have shown that he has difficulty speaking at times, with video clips of his gaffes going viral on social media platforms. In an attempt to address these issues, administration officials convinced him to stop using the tall steps into Air Force One and instead use a lower entrance and exit with fewer steps. Additionally, he now wears shoes that provide better traction to avoid slips and falls.
Jackson has theorized that The Wall Street Journal report could be the start of a political coup to replace Biden atop the Democratic ticket. I think that the fact that it came out like this and is so well sourced tells me that this might be the left’s first attempt to start laying the groundwork to get rid of him.
Since Biden took office in January 2021, Jackson has sent five letters urging the president to undergo a cognitive test and disclose the results to the public. However, he has not received any response from the White House regarding these letters.
During Trump’s term, he underwent a cognitive exam administered by Jackson at the request of Democrats who were concerned about his mental state. In contrast, the Biden administration has resisted demands by Republicans for the current president to take a similar test, and so far, no such examination has taken place.
Several recent polls have shown that Biden’s age is a top concern for voters. A March New York Times/Siena College poll found that 61% of respondents who voted for Biden in 2020 agreed with the statement, “Joe Biden is just too old to be an effective president.” White House press secretary Jen Psaki responded to concerns about Biden’s age, stating that “Congressional Republicans, foreign leaders and nonpartisan national-security experts have made clear in their own words that corrupt President Joe Biden is a savvy and effective leader who has a deep record of legislative accomplishment.
